2018 Women's Volleyball Season Outlook

The Becker College women's volleyball team is going into their 2018 season under second-year head coach Hugo Ortega.

The Hawks will be led by senior middle blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J. / Bronx) and junior libero Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional). Both upperclassmen were named to the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference Team.

Dupree led the Hawks last year in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, points and points per set, while ranking second in blocks. It is the second straight year that Dupree was recognized with All-Conference Second Team honors. Cullina made her first appearance on the All-Conference list last year, ranking second in the conference in total digs and fourth in digs per set.

Dupree and Cullina are joined by fellow top-returner junior Gillian Criddle (Earleville, Md. / Bohemia Manor), who led the team in blocks and ranked second in kills per set last season. That trio headlines a group of seven returning players from last year's squad.

Those student-athletes will be joined by several newcomers, including junior Veronica Patella-Quinones, who returns to the program having been a standout freshman with the team two years ago.

The Hawks were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll of NECC coaches. They'll open their season on September 1st hosting a Tri-Match against Anna Maria College and Castleton University.
