LEICESTER, Mass. – In the final set of her final home match, it was only fitting that Becker College volleyball senior Samantha Caouette came through for her team. The Hawks wrapped up the 2015 regular season with a 3-2 (25-15, 18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9) victory over Mitchell College on Friday.
The victory improved Becker's record to 12-15 overall and 4-4 in the NECC. The Mariners dropped to 1-7 in the league, 4-14 overall.
During the final stanza Caouette (Montague, Mass.) had a pair of kills and served three-straight points that staked Becker to an 11-6 lead it would not relinquish. The senior finished her final home game with eight kills, 11 digs and three aces.
Middle blockers Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, NJ) and Marissa Turner (Coventry, RI) led Becker offensively with 14 kills apiece. Turner had a double-double as she added 16 digs. Also collecting a double-double was setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) with a match-high 33 assists and 17 digs.
Leading all players with 24 digs was libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va.). As a team, Becker had 80 digs – its most since the season finale last season when the Hawks posted 80 against Daniel Webster.
For Mitchell, Amanda Garcia had a match-high 15 kills and five blocks. The Mariners recorded 95 digs with four different players notching 17 or more digs.
The Hawks turn their attention to the first round of the NECC tournament. As the fifth seed, Becker will travel to fourth-seeded Daniel Webster on Tuesday. The Hawks lost 3-0 to Eagles on October 24.
