Volleyball Falls In Worcester City Volleyball Tournament

Worcester, Mass. - Led by tournament MVP Shay Feeley, WPI captured its eighth Worcester City Volleyball Tournament, and second in three years, with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16) victory over Worcester State in the eye-opener and a 3-1 (9-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22) triumph over Clark in the championship match. The Cougars defeated Becker 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-17) while Worcester State won the consolation match by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) margin.

Feeley was joined on the All-Tournament team by fellow Engineer Melissa Daigle (Norfolk, MA), Clark's Savannah Sanford and Marina Ramos, Worcester State's Alyssa Jasper and Becker's Samantha Caouette (Montague, Mass).

The day began in WPI's Harrington's Auditorium with the final two matches play in the Sports and Recreation Center due to heat and high humidity.

Clark 3, Becker 0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-17)

The Cougars received eight kills from Hannah Fox to go with six each from Shannon Glass-Smythe, Ramos and Mei Conde. Tori Whitney handed out 13 assists as Kaitlyn Stuck and Ramos collected nine digs apiece. Glass-Smythe also added eight digs for the defending Worcester City Tournament Champions. Danielle Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) led Becker with five kills while Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) doled out nine assists. Kirsti Hadzewycz (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Chase Peterson (Redding, Conn.) each had nine digs as Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) dug out eight and Landry had seven.

Consolation: Worcester State 3, Becker 0

Jasper added 18 more kills on the day in addition to 13 digs for the Lancers. Lewis amassed 21 assists and Townsend pitched in with 16. Leduc led the way with 16 digs followed by Cabral with 15. Hadzewycz had 11 kills for Becker while Robbie and Caouette each had five. Landry handed out 20 helpers. Turner led the Hawks with 11 digs to go with seven from Peterson and six each from Robbie, Caouette and Hadzewycz.
