Worcester, MA --- Setters Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) and Alex Rangel (Weston, FL) combined to hand out 26 assists to guide host WPI to a 3-0 win over Becker in a non-conference volleyball match on Thursday evening. The Engineers, who took the match by scores of 25-6, 25-8 and 25-13, improve to 12-2 while Becker dips to 2-8 on the season.
Sophomore hitter Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, CT) led the Engineer attack with seven kills and just one error in 13 attempts. Classmate Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) registered six kills while freshman Holly Ganser (Seward, AK) and sophomores Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) and Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) chipped in with five apiece.
Digs were a team effort with freshman Sarah Cook (New Paltz, NY) heading the effort with six, while fellow rookie Cori Nawn (Bedford, MA) added four. Woodward led all players with 17 assists while Rangel distributed nine helpers. Sophomore Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) recorded three service aces.
The Hawks were paced by senior setter Kelsea Laubenstein (Randolph, MA) who doled out a team-best 11 assists. Freshman Katelyn Burns (Fall River, MA) dug out six balls, while sophomore Nicole Morse (Alton, NH) smashed four kills.
WPI is off until Tuesday when they venture to Wheaton for a key NEWMAC matchup with the Lyons at 7pm. Becker returns home Sunday for a homecoming weekend tri-match with Lyndon State and Johnson State. The first ball is scheduled to be served at noon.
