Keith, McKissick lead Women's Soccer past Hornets

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's soccer team opened their 2018 season with a 5-0 victory over visiting Northern Vermont University Lyndon on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field in Leicester.

Senior forward Lindsey Keith (Sutton, Mass. / Sutton) finished the day with a hat trick with three goals, giving her 52 for her career.

Becker struck first in the 14th minute when senior forward Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) drew a hard foul in the box. That setup a penalty kick opportunity for Keith, who put the shot to the right of the keeper for her first goal of the season as Becker went ahead 1-0.

The Hawks went ahead 2-0 at exactly 19 minutes into the game when McKissick fed sophomore midfielder Korra Joubert (Oxford, Mass. / Oxford) for a strike. It was Joubert's first goal of the season.

McKissick tallied her second assist of the game in the 30th minute when she found Keith who shot it home to put Becker ahead 3-0. Four minutes later, Becker sophomore midfielder Chelsea Sedar (Bridgewater, Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) scored her first goal as a Hawks, putting Becker ahead 4-0 going into halftime.

In the second half, the senior duo of Keith and McKissick picked up right where they left off in the first, as McKissick hit Keith with a pass in the 51st minute, giving Keith the hat trick and McKissick her third assist of the day.

Becker senior goalkeeper Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee), freshman keeper Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) and sophomore goalie Jordyn Spitzley (Portland, Mich. / Portland) combined to earn the shutout, with Martel playing the entire first half and Cobb-Wilkins starting the second. Lyndon freshman goalkeeper Lauren Young (Danville, Vt. / Danville) recorded 29 saves in the loss. The Hawks outshot the Hornets, 61-1, on the day. 26 Becker players saw action on the field.

The Hawks of Becker are 1-0 to start their season for the fourth consecutive year. The Hornets of Lyndon fall to 0-2.

Becker will be back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Fitchburg State University in a 4:00 p.m. game. Northern Vermont University Lyndon travels to Saint Michael's College on Tuesday in their next game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
