LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's soccer team defeated visiting Anna Maria College 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Hawks of Becker improved their record to 6-2 while the AMCats of Anna Maria slipped to 2-5.
Just three minutes into the game, Becker sophomore midfielder Helena Ortiz (Memphis, Tenn.) scored her fourth goal of the year from the left side off a put-back from sophomore forward Lindsey Keith (Sutton, Mass.), putting the Hawks ahead 1-0.
Anna Maria would find the equalizer, however, as freshman midfielder Rachel Lake (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored on a breakaway to knot it at a goal apiece. That score would hold up as the teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
Becker sophomore goalkeeper Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) made one save for the Hawks.
Anna Maria goalkeeper Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) kept the AMCats in the game with 19 saves.
The Hawks are back on the pitch on Saturday, September 24th when they host Mitchell College in an NECC match at 12:00 p.m. The AMCats face Albertus Magnus at home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
