LEICESTER, Mass.- Junior Katherine Lawrence tallied a hat-trick in the first half of play as Eastern Nazarene College defeated Becker College 5-2 in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Eastern Nazarene (4-4-1) got on the board 56 seconds into the game when Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) redirected a shot off the right post. The Lions added to their lead in the fourth minute when Libby Nyquist (Barre, Vt.) broke free all alone down the far sideline, scoring top shelf for the 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Keith (Sutton, Mass.) put Becker (7-2-0) on the board in the seventh minute when she put back a failed clear attempt by the Lions defense. The Hawks tied the game at 2-2 when Keith fed Alison Mosdale (Marlborough, Conn.) who promptly slipped a shot past the reach of Eastern Nazarene goalie Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.).
Katherine Lawrence tallied back-to-back breakaway goals to end the first half and complete her hat-trick.
The Lions put the game out of reach in the 52nd minute when Justine Buchanan (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored off of a corner kick from Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) to make the final 5-2.
Kristen Farley made six saves to earn the victory while Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass.) suffered the loss after making four saves in the first half.
Both teams return to conference play on Saturday, October 3. Becker will host NECC rival Elms College at noon, while Eastern Nazarene travels to Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Endicott College at 4:30 p.m.
