Leicester, Mass. --- The visiting Lynx of Lesley tallied two goals on the day to earn a 2-0 win over host Becker in NECC women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. Lesley is now 7-1-2 to start their season with a 2-0 mark in the conference standings while the Hawks of Becker drop to 3-4-2 with a 1-1 record in the NECC.
Kate Ryder (Glastonbury, Conn.) opened the scoring in the fortieth minute on a solo breakaway goal as Lesley went up 1-0. It was Ryder's team-leading fourth score of the season. In the sixty-second minute Jennifer Collins (Edison, N.J.) took a pass from Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.), splitting the defense and finding the back of the net for her first career goal. Halen's fourth assist of the season helped put the Lesley up 2-0, and that was all the visitors would need.
Becker goalkeeper Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.) was tremendous in net, recording 13 saves on the day. Caroline Plunkett (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) had the only shot on goal for the Hawks, but it was turned away by Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, Pa.) in her second shutout of the season.
Up next for the Hawks, the team hosts Rhode Island College on Wednesday, October 3rd for a 4pm contest. Lesley travels to Bay Path, also on Wednesday at 4pm.
