Leicester, Mass. --- The Blazers of Elms defeated the host Hawks of Becker by a score of 1-0 on Saturday, in NECC conference women's soccer action. Elms' Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) scored the game's sole goal as she got the Blazers on the board just 2:18 into the game, kicking the ball past the out-stretched hand of Becker goalkeeper Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.) and giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
After a rain delay with 11:14 remaining in the first half, the teams would retake the field and play out the period. At halftime, Elms had outshot Becker 6-4, holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. A hotly contested second half saw the Hawks earn several opportunities to tie it up, falling just short each time.
Rose would finish with four saves in goal for the Hawks. Caroline Plunkett (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) led the Hawks with five shots.
Elms goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) tallied six saves for the Blazers.
For the game, Elms outshout Becker, 9-8, and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Blazers are now 6-4-3 with a 3-1-2 record in the NECC conference while the Hawks fall to 6-6-2 with a 4-2 mark in the conference standings.
Becker will return to action on Tuesday evening when they host the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont in a 6:00p.m. matchup. Elms will host the Lyons of Mount Holyoke on Thursday, October 20th at 4:00p.m.
