Wildcats nip Women's Lacrosse

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's lacrosse team lost 15-2 to visiting Wheelock College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in Leicester.

The Wildcats of Wheelock (4-3, 2-0 NECC) got on the board first when senior Alex Clark (Oak Bluffs, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard) scored her sixth goal of the year just six minutes in to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Four minutes later, it was junior Alexah Mellis (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) with her ninth goal as Wheelock went up by a deuce. Mellis assisted on the third goal with 19:15 to go in the first, scored by senior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass. / Dartmouth). With 13:36 remaining, sophomore Katelyn Dickson (Dracut, Mass. / Dracut) took a pass from junior Georgia Schindele (Sparkhill, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) and put it home to make it 4-0. Junior Colleen Macdonald (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) took over the game later in the opening period, scoring a hat trick in the span of 6:06 of game clock time, with the first two of those coming while the Wildcats were down a player.

Wheelock went into halftime leading 7-0.

Just 1:27 into the second half, Wheelock freshman attacker Ashley Eppolito (Nashua, N.H. / Nashua South) increased the lead to 8-0.

The Hawks of Becker (0-8, 0-2 NECC) finally found pay dirt when sophomore midfielder Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, N.H. / Exeter) shot it in with 26:45 remaining, pulling the hosts to an 8-1 margin.

With 25:43 to go in the game, Dickson scored her fifth goal of the season as the Wildcats went up 9-1. Frade followed up two minutes later, and Schindele scored with 20:54 to go as Wheelock went up by ten.

Macdonald scored her fourth goal off a free position shot two minutes later for Wheelock's 12th goal of the game. Eppolito found Mellis with 14:52 to go, then MacDonald scored her fifth goal of the game with a score at 11:49.

Becker scored their second goal of the game when junior Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine / Kents Hill), having switched from goalie to field player, scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Nelson with 9:52 to go.

With 6:10 left, Wheelock senior Rachel Danis (Underhill, Vt. / Mount Mansfield Union) scored her first goal of the season to wrap up the scoring.

For Becker, Storey recorded 16 saves in goal while Wheelock senior Erin Sior (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) tallied three saves.

Becker will be back on the field on Sunday when they face Maine-Farmington at 12:00 p.m. Wheelock also has a quick turnaround, as they travel to Bay Path University on Sunday in an 11:00 a.m. game.
