Carter scores hat trick but Leopards too much for Women's Lacrosse

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's lacrosse team lost 21-4 to the visiting team from the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in Leicester.

The Hawks of Becker (0-5) scored the first goal of the game when sophomore midfielder Samantha Carter (Boothbay Harbor, Maine / Boothbay Region) recorded her second goal of the season on an unassisted shot just 2:21 into the game. Carter finished a hat trick on the day, while sophomore midfielder Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, N.H. / Exeter) scored once. Junior goalie Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine / Kents Hill) finished the game with 15 saves in net.

The Leopards of Wentworth (4-4) answered quickly two minutes later as freshman Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass. / Pembroke) scored her first goal of the game to tie it up at 1-1. With 22:28 left in the first half, junior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H. / Pelham) gave the Leopards their first lead of the game, the first of her four goals on the day. Paradis would also dish out two assists. Junior midfielder Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) made it 3-1 with 20:05 remaining in the period, the first of her two goals. Junior Jenna Tetreau (Dudley, Mass. / Marianapolis Prep) scored the first of her three goals of the day at the 18:50 mark to make it 4-1. Wentworth later made it 5-1 when sophomore Julie Dam (Milford, Mass. / Milford) scored her first goal of the game. Dam would finish with one goal and one assist. The score was 6-1 when sophomore Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine / Erskine Academy) scored, and was 11-2 when senior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass. / Pingree School) found the back of the net. The Leopards led 13-3 going into the halftime break.

In the second half, Wentworth posted three goals from Senior Courtney McCormick (Hanson, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson), two from her sister, junior Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson), and one goal from sophomore Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston East).

For the game, the Leopards outshot the Hawks, 43-11.

Becker will open their conference schedule on Wednesday when they host NECC rival Mitchell College in a 4:00 p.m. game. Wentworth will also play their next game on Wednesday as they go on the road at Western New England University for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
