LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's lacrosse team lost 15-4 to visiting Southern Vermont College on Wednesday afternoon in their New England Collegiate Conference opener at Alumni Field in Leicester.
The Mountaineers of Southern Vermont (3-1, 2-0 NECC) were led by senior midfielder Lauren Nesshoever (Chittenden, Vt./Otter Valley Union HS) with five goals on the day. Senior attacker Emily Lesure (Cheshire, Mass./Hoosac Valley High School) posted four goals, while sophomore midfielder Sofia Sorriento (Troy, N.Y./Averill Park HS) had the hat trick. Senior midfielder Mel Orrell (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester HS) scored twice while sophomore defender Aubrey Vierstra (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties HS) also had a goal. Junior goalie Kristiana Goldup (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville HS) recorded eight stops. Southern Vermont outshot Becker, 41-14.
The Hawks of Becker (1-6, 0-1 NECC) had two goals early from sophomore attacker Taryn Flebbe (Neptune, N.J. / Neptune). Junior midfielder Meghan Bealka (Freetown, Mass. / Apponequet Regional) and freshman midfielder Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, N.H. / Exeter) also recorded goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine / Kents Hill) finished with 13 saves in net.
Becker is back on the field on Saturday when they will travel to Wheelock College, weather permitting, for a 12:00 p.m. Southern Vermont hosts Mitchell College in their next game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
