LEICESTER, Mass. -- It was a well-rounded, prepared Framingham State team that showed up to surge past Becker College with a 14-9 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win brings the Rams record to 2-0, while the Hawks drop to 0-4.
The Hawks got on the board early when Victoria Belcher (Seekonk, Mass.) scored a goal only 34 seconds into the game, her 7th goal on the season. The Rams fired back with 6 unanswered goals over the next 23 minutes. They finished out the half with a 6-1 lead. All six of the Rams goals came from different players.
Becker came out fighting in the beginning of the second half, netting a pair of goals in the first two minutes, from Belcher and freshman Taryn Flebbe (Neptune, N.J.). Over the next ten minutes, the two teams traded goals, but the Hawks couldn't seem to make up the ground they lost in the first half. The Rams remained consistent in their play in the second, paced by sophomore Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) with four goals, while freshman Erin Lally (Westwood, Mass.) added two. When all was said and done, Framingham State outshot Becker 31-18.
Framingham State finished with nine of their players contributing to their goal tally. The charge was led by Foley, with four goals; Lally added three more, and Jessica Graham (Woburn, Mass.) and Morghan Cassella (Lowell, Mass.) both finished with one goal and two assists apiece. Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the win with nine saves.
Becker was paced by Belcher, tallying four goals and one assist on the day; Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) tossed in two goals into the mix. Freshman goalie Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) braved the loss after making an impressive 17 saves.
Becker returns to field on March 12th with their third home contest of the week against Wentworth Institute of Technology at 1:00 p.m. Framingham State heads down to Hilton Head, S.C. to play Transylvania University on March 15th at 11:00 a.m.
