LEICESTER, Mass.- Freshman Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) scored a game high seven goals to lead Mount Ida College to a 17-10 victory over Becker College in non-conference women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win evens the Mustangs record to 1-1 while the Hawks remain winless at 0-3.
The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the first half. Becker's Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) put Hawks on the board when she tickled the twine 5:03 into the game for her first goal of the season. Mount Ida tied the game 3:52 later on senior Briana Barker's (Westerly, R.I.) first maker of the season.
After the both teams tallied goals on free-position shots, reigning NECC Player of the Week Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead when she scored top shelf with her team leading 11th goal of the season.
The Mustangs would then go on a 3-0 run with a pair of goals from Alyssa Kelly and Brianna Barker's second of the game to take a 5-3 advantage. Erika Galdamez (Concord, Calf.) ended the Mustangs run with a goal on a free-position shot. The Hawks excitement was short lived as Briana Barker completed her hat-trick to push the Mustang advantage to 6-4.
Victoria Belcher (Seekonk, Mass.) would close out the first half with her fifth goal of the season to bring the Hawks within a goal at the break.
Alyssa Kelly would take control of the game in the second stanza, scoring two goals just 43 seconds into the half to give Mount Ida an 8-5 lead. After Nicole Pavao (Peabody, Mass.) extended the Mustangs lead with a free-position shot, Kailee Ruyack netted a pair of goals to get the Hawks back into the game at 9-7.
The Hawks struggled to find an answer for Alyssa Kelly as she tallied back-to-back goals to extend the Mount Ida advantage to 11-7. After Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) cut the Becker deficit to 11-8, Alyssa Kelly was back at it again with what proved to be the game winner with 10:27 remaining in regulation.
Mount Ida sophomore Emily McConnell (Lowell, Mass.) put the game out of reach when she scored four goals in the final 8:56. Nicole Pavao finished with three goals to earn a hat-trick.
Kailee Ruyack led Becker with four goals while Victoria Belcher tallied a hat-trick.
Mount Ida goalie Kackie Tarsook (Derry, N.H.) earned her first collegiate win after making 13 saves. Becker keeper Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) made nine saves in her debut between the pipes.
