LEICESTER, Mass. – Senior Tatum Fahs (Foster, R.I.) scored a game-high six goals to lead Becker College to a 19-4 victory over Southern Vermont College in New England College Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Hawks (6-4, 3-1 NECC) outshot the Mountaineers (1-3, 1-2 NECC) 44-12. Becker got on the board 29 seconds into the game on Kailee Ruyack's 19th goal of the season. After the Hawks took a 2-0 lead on a Victoria Belcher (Seekonk, Mass.) goal, Southern Vermont cut the deficit to 2-1 on Melodie Orrell's (Gloucester, Mass.) 11th maker of the season.
Becker responded by scoring nine unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-1 advantage. Southern Vermont sophomore Emily Lesure (Cheshire, Mass.) ended the first half with back-to-back goals to make the make the score 11-3 at the break.
Becker would open the second half with three unanswered goals before Melodie Orrell scored the final goal of the game for the Mountaineers on an assist from Taylor Brewer (Bennington, Vt.).
Kailee Ruyack and Victoria Belcher finished the game with four goals apiece while Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) tallied a hat-trick.
Senior goalie Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) made five stops to earn the victory while Kelsey Carrera (Queensbury, N.Y.) turned away 14 shots for the Mountaineers.
Becker returns to action on Monday, April 6 when they travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. Southern Vermont will head to Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m.
