PITTSBURGH – Cougars sophomore Kelly Carr (New Hartford, N.Y.) scored her first career game-winning goal in overtime with 1:47 remaining, leading the Chatham Cougars to a 3-2 win over the Becker Hawks on opening night of the women's hockey season for both teams.

Carr's game-winning goal and first goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Ashley Marchant (Orange County, Calif.) in the 3-2 win.
As for regulation, the story was all about special teams with the Cougars scoring twice on the power play while the Hawks added a shorthanded goal in the first period.
Just 3:35 into the game, Cougars senior Holly Ackerman (East Rockaway, N.Y.) got Chatham on the board with a power play goal to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Hawks sophomore Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) tied the game at 1-1 with a shorthanded goal at 17:09.
The Hawks took the lead with four minutes remaining in the second period on the game's only even strength regulation goal.
Cougars junior Sydney Collins (Wake Forest, N.C.) third period goal on the power play would eventually force overtime as her goal at 3:13 tied the game 2-2.
FOR THE HAWKS
- Conway's goal was her first career shorthanded tally as a member of the Hawks.
- Freshman Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) made 27 saves but falls to 0-1 this season with the loss.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Senior Devon Strachan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made 28 saves and goes to 1-0 with the win.
The Hawks and Cougars finish off a two-game weekend as they faceoff once again tomorrow at 3:40 at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena.
