SHELTON, Conn. – The Becker women's ice hockey team gave up a 2-1 first period lead as Sacred Heart scored one in the second and one in the third to prevail 3-2 in Saturday afternoon non-conference action.

Sacred Heart was first to reach the scoreboard 5:44 into the game when Lilly Cleary (Norwell, Mass.) scored on an assist from Samantha Shoebottom (Scarborough, Maine). Becker evened the score just a minute and a half later as freshman Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) scored on a 5-3-man advantage with help from Julia Ravenelle (Barrington, N.H.) and Brittany Aiello (Franklin Park, Ill.). The Hawks took a 2-1 lead heading into the third period as Gabby Petrisin (High Bridge, N.J.) scored on another power play goal with three minutes to go in the frame.
It wasn't long into the second period that Sacred Heart knotted the score up at two, as Ann Klein (Saint Paul, Minn.) logged a tally on assists from Jayne Lewis (Troy, Ill.) and Olivia Bryant (Lexington, Mass.). The Pioneers outshot the Hawks 17-3 in the second, but Becker's netminder Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo.) stopped the final 15 shots she faced in the period to head into the third tied, 2-2.
Sacred Heart's Maddie Bishop (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored what proved to be the game-winner 4:12 into the final frame. Becker fought back with an extra skating during the last minute of play, managing four shots, with three stopped by Sarah Erban (Attleboro, Mass.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Three of the first four goals in the game were with a skater advantage.
- The Pioneers tallied both even strength goals.
- After taking the 2-1 lead, Becker recorded only seven shots through the rest of the first period and the entire second stanza.
- Erban made 10 saves, four in the final period, to earn the win in goal for Sacred Heart.
- Johnson finished the game with 32 saves, playing 59 minutes in net.
The Hawks are on the road again on Tuesday (Dec. 4) and will head to Marlborough for a 7 p.m. contest against Anna Maria (0-7).
