Women's Ice Hockey drop home-opener to Ravens, 3-0


LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team lost 3-0 to visiting Franklin Pierce University on Saturday in Worcester. It was the Ice Hawks home opener in the new Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

The Ice Hawks of Becker are now 0-2 on the season while the Ravens of Franklin Pierce improve to 1-2.

Franklin Pierce sophomore Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass. / Walpole Express) got the scoring started 14:29 into the first period, scoring off a breakaway with assists to freshman Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass. / Brockton) and freshman Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass. / Lawrence Academy).

After a scoreless second period, senior Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn. / Minnesota Blades) scored on a power play 4:05 into the third, assisted by freshman Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass. / Arlington Catholic) and Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H. / Proctor Academy).

Finally, with 9:48 to go in the game, Brolsma scored unassisted to put the contest out of reach.

The Ice Hawks of Becker got 56 saves out of junior goalie Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo. / Dallas Stars Elite) while senior netminder Madison Murray (Berkley, Mich. / Honeybaked) finished with 14 saves for the Ravens of Franklin Pierce

Becker is back on the ice next Saturday when they travel to Utica for a 2:30 p.m. game. Franklin Pierce travels to Saint Anselm on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
