Women's Basketball falls to Worcester State in opener

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's basketball team lost 62-44 at Worcester State University on Saturday evening in the opener to their 2019-2020 season, played at John P. Brissette Court in Worcester. The contest was game one of the 2019 Worcester City Tournament.

FOR THE HAWKS OF BECKER

  • Becker freshman forward Natasha Pacheco (Fairfax, Va. / WT Woodson), playing in the first collegiate game of her career, led the Hawks with 16 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals, all while shooting six-of-ten from the floor.
  • Becker senior guard Cassidy Harrison (Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough) picked up where she left off last year by scoring 15 points while shooting three of four from behind the arc.
  • Becker junior guard Jazlyn Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I. / St. Mary Academy Bay View) added six points, four rebounds and two steals in the boxscore.
  • Becker senior forward Sarah Ware (Oakham, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) added five points and three rebounds.       

 

FOR THE LANCERS OF WORCESTER STATE

  • Worcester State senior guard Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) led all scorers with 19 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
  • Worcester State freshman guard Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass. / Tewksbury Memorial) came off the bench to score 17 points with four rebounds and three steals.
  • Worcester State senior guard Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass. / Greater Lowell Tech) added eight points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

TURNING POINT

  • The game was decided when, with Becker trailing by eight going into the fourth quarter, Worcester State opened the final period on a 9-2 run, including a steal by Sweeney that she fed to Mosley for a fast-break layup. The Hawks never threatened again.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the court on Sunday when they play the loser of game two at the Worcester City Tournament.
