Becker Women's Hoops

AMHERST, Mass. --- The Becker College women's basketball season team saw their incredible 2017-2018 season come to a close on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament, losing 61-12 at Amherst College, the number-one ranked team in the nation.

The Mammoths of Amherst (28-0) were led by junior forward Emma McCarthy (Shelton, Conn. / Lauralton Hall) with 11 points and four rebounds, sophomore guard Madeline Eck (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) with 10 points and five steals, sophomore guard Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Pa. / William Penn Charter School) with eight points and junior guard Maeve McNamara (Arlington, Mass. / Buckingham Browne & Nichols School) with seven points and four steals.

The Hawks of Becker (18-11) were led by sophomore guard Cassidy Harrison (Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough) with four points and three steals. Junior forward Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn. / Hill Regional Career) pulled down nine rebounds with four steals while junior forward Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) finished with one bucket.

The Mammoths exploded out of the gate with a 19-2 first quarter, as an impressive defensive effort forced the Hawks into committing 11 turnovers in the opening stanza. Becker fared better in the second quarter, going into halftime down 28-9. But the Amherst pulled away in the third, outscoring the visiting team 26-3 and putting the game out of reach.

This year was arguably the best ever for the Becker College women's basketball program, as the Hawks won their first New England Collegiate Conference Championship ever and reached the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in school history. In just four seasons, head coach David Bostick has taken a program that went 2-23 in 2014-2015 and taken it to the cusp of greatness. As of this writing, every member of the team is projected to return for next season.

Congratulations to the whole team on the conclusion of their season.
