LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College softball team took both ends of their New England Collegiate Conference double-header with visiting Wheelock College on Wednesday afternoon at Russell Field in Leicester, taking the first game 7-0 in four innings before winning the nightcap, 8-0, in five.
The Hawks improve to 14-10 and 8-2 in NECC play while the Wildcats fall to 2-20 and 0-8.
Becker senior Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland) picked up both wins, pitching nine combined innings and allowing just three hits and two walks against 19 strikeouts. Lee also went two-for-two with three walks. Junior Samantha Belenchia (Ansonia, Conn. / Ansonia) went three for three with a home run and four runs batted in. Junior catcher Megan Klemanchuck (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) continued her dominant power play of late, with one home run and five RBI. Senior outfielder Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst) went three for five with three runs scored.
Becker is back on the field on Saturday when the team travels to Newbury College for a 12:00 p.m. double-header. Wheelock travels to Curry College on Thursday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
