LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's lacrosse team lost 6-5 in overtime to the visiting team from the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in Leicester.

The Hawks of Becker (1-7) scored first when senior midfielder Blake Gordon (East Greenbush, N.Y. / LaSalle Institute) found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season 3:42 into the game.

The Crusaders of Dallas (6-5) quickly bounced back with 7:26 to go in the first quarter when freshman Cole Griffin (Lucas, TX / Lovejoy) scored his third goal of the season to tie it up, assisted by freshman Tucker Jameson (Mechanicsville, MD / St. Mary's Ryken). Then with 2:26 to go in the first, freshman Chasen Reynolds (Fallbrook, CA / Cathedral Catholic) found the back of the net on an unassisted strike to put Dallas up 2-1. Finally, with 34 seconds to go in the opening quarter, sophomore Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, WA / Mount Si) made it 3-1 to close out the first.

The second quarter was characterized by physical play and multiple penalties. Becker sophomore Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt. / Peoples Academy) scored the only goal with 2:41 to go in the first half off a man-up opportunity, and the teams went into halftime with Dallas leading 3-2. It was Schneider's tenth goal of the season.

In the third quarter, the Hawks were appearing to break through, as Gordon found Becker freshman Matthew Guerin (E. Longmeadow, Mass. / E. Longmeadow) with 7:16 to go for his team-leading 12th goal of the season, again on a man up opportunity. A minute-and-a-half later, Becker senior Cruz Desrochers (Malden, Mass. / Malden) scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from Guerin, as Becker went up 4-3.

But with 1:02 left in the third, Dallas freshman J.P. Hasson (Fairfax, VA / Trinity School at Meadowview) tied the game up at four goals apiece, assisted by Jameson. Finally, the Crusaders capitalized on a turnover deep in the Hawks' zone as senior Joshua McClendon (Redondo Beach, CA / Redondo Union) scored with one second remaining to give Dallas a 5-4 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Trailing in the fourth and needing an equalizer, the Hawks once again turned to Guerin to make a play, as the rookie took a pass from senior Avyay Chaganty (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) and scored his 13th goal, knotting it at 5-5.

Just 27 seconds into overtime, Reynolds cut towards the net and put in the game-winner.

Becker is back on the field on Wednesday when they play host to UMass Boston. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. Dallas travels to Salem State on Monday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
