Mount Ida storms past Men's Lacrosse, 16-5

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's lacrosse team lost 16-5 to the visiting team from Mount Ida College on Thursday evening at Alumni Field in Leicester.

The Mustangs of Mount Ida (2-6) got on the board first when junior midfielder Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn. / Farmington) scored 15th goal of the season just 2:51 into the game. Just 22 seconds later, junior defender Dylan DiLena (Barre, Vt. / Spaulding) made it 2-0 on an unassisted strike. With 3:51 left in the first quarter, senior midfielder Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass. / Blue Hills) scored his 12th goal of the year, assisted by LaPorte and the visitors went up 3-0 after one.

In the second quarter, Mount Ida junior attacker Matt Curran (Abington, Mass. / Abington) scored with 12:13 left in the half, with an assist to junior attacker Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn. / Norwich Free Academy). Freshman midfielder Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass. / Holliston) scored with 11:43 remaining, assisted by sophomore attacker Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) as the Mustangs went up 5-0. Ton scored his 15th goal of the season with 8:43 to go, assisted by DiLena. Finally, LaPorte scored his 16th goal of the season with 3:11 remaining in the first, assisted by Eason.

The Hawks of Becker (1-6) finally scored with just 10 seconds remaining in the half on an unassisted strike by senior midfielder Blake Gordon (East Greenbush, N.Y. / LaSalle Institute). Mount Ida went into halftime leading 7-1.

Becker scored the first goal of the third quarter when freshman attacker Matthew Guerin (E. Longmeadow, Mass. / E. Longmeadow) scored just 1:24 into the period.

After Mount Ida got a goal back from Eason with an assist to Ton, Becker sophomore Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt. / Peoples Academy) scored unassisted with his ninth goal of the season, tying Guerin for the team lead.

Mount Ida surged back, as Ton scored three goals in rapid succession, including a man-down goal with 3:53 left in the third quarter for his 18th of the year, emerging as the leading scorer for the Mustangs. Mount Ida led 11-3 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Donahue scored his 13th goal of the season with 10:04 remaining in the game, assisted by Eason.

The Hawks answered two minutes later when Guerin scored his team-leading tenth goal of the year on a man-up opportunity, assisted by senior defender Nicholas Mariano (Cranston, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken). Then with 6:44 to go, Guerin would complete his hat trick off an assist to Schneider.

With time winding down, Mount Ida freshman attacker freshman attacker Michael Muench (Maplewood, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) broke into the scoring column with his first career goal with 5:31 to go, assisted by Donahue. Just 14 seconds later, the Mustangs capitalized on a costly Becker turnover as Eason posted his ninth goal of the year, assisted by Ton. Ton scored his fifth goal of the game and 19th of the season, assisted by Alibrandi.

Finally, junior midfielder Adam Lavallee (Pawtucket, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) scored his first goal of the season on an unassisted strike with 1:44 to go.

Becker sophomore goalie Trey McMillen (Grapevine, Tex. / Grapevine) finished with 19 saves on the day. Mount Ida senior goalie Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H. / Pinkerton Academy) finished with four saves.

Becker will be back on the field on Saturday when they host the University of Dallas at 3:00 p.m. Mount Ida face Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
