McMillen leads Men's Ice Hockey past Greyhounds for first win

WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College Men's ice hockey team won 5-2 at Assumption College on Saturday evening at Buffone Rink in Worcester.

  • The Hawks struck first when Becker sophomore forward Jason Diamond (Lakeville, Conn. / Connecticut Nighthawks (USPHL)) scored his first goal of the season just 9:36 into the first, with assists going to freshman forward Luke James (Moon Township, Pa. / Springfield Jr. Pics (USPHL)) and freshman forward Ian Zaleski (Boise, Idaho / Helena Bighorns (NA3HL)).  
  • Just 14 seconds later, the Hawks made it 2-0 when Becker junior forward Romain Wild (Mex, Switzerland / St. Norbert) scored for the second time in as many games, assisted by senior forward Trey McMillen (Grapevine, Texas / Rochester Ice Hawks (NA3HL)).
  • Assumption answered in the second period when sophomore forward John Pigott (Arlington, Mass. / Tilton School (Prep)) scored 17:46 into the first period. This was followed up with a goal from senior forward John Fine-Lease (Willsboro, N.Y. / Walpole Express (EHL)) to tie it up at 2-2.
  • Becker scored the go-ahead goal 2:57 into the third period, as McMillen found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, assisted by Wild and freshman forward Mikey Wilson (Alexandria, Va. / Springfield Jr. Pics (USPHL)).
  • Then with 3:52 left in the game, James scored the first goal of his Becker career, assisted by Diamond.  
  • Finally, with just one second left, McMillen scored again, putting Becker ahead 5-2.
  • Becker senior goalkeeper Cody Foster (Saugus, Calif. / Tri-City IceHawks (USPHL)) picked up the win, recording 33 saves between the pipes.
  • Assumption senior net-minder David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) finished with eight saves.

The Hawks are back on the ice on Friday when they host the University of New England at 7:00 p.m. The Greyhounds travel to Stonehill College in their next contest, that coming on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
