Credle’s clutch performance leads Men’s Basketball over Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. --- The Becker College men's basketball team won 80-67 at Mitchell College on Saturday at the Yarnall Athletic Center in New London, Connecticut.

Kyle Credle (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) and Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y./Campus Magnet) netted 27 points apiece to lead the Hawks (10-5 overall), who remained unbeaten in NECC play at 6-0. Credle recorded a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds while Durodola contributed eight boards and three blocks. Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass./St. John's) and Khairi Mosley (Elizabeth, N.J./Piscataway Vo.) also scored in double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Credle's 27 points matched his career-high while the 15 boards represented a personal best.

Domenico Santiago (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Port St. Lucie) paced the Mariners (2-13 overall, 2-5 NECC) with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Hasani Williams (Miramar, Fla./Hallandale) chipped in with 11 points while Alan Morgan (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Port St. Lucie) and Geary McLeod (Meriden, Conn./Waterford) each finished with 10.

Becker led by as many as 12 points in the opening stanza thanks to a monster first half from Durodola, who poured in 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting. The Hawks carried a 46-37 lead into intermission after shooting 56 percent as a team.

Mitchell bounced back in the second half to make it a game. The Mariners used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 57-55 with 9:13 to play, with Williams providing six points during the stretch.

On the ensuing possession, Becker answered with a jumper by Mosley to pad the lead. The Mariners pulled within a score twice more over the next 3:00, but in each case the Hawks responded with points.

After a Mitchell bucket made it a three-point game with 6:21 to go, Credle took over and carried Becker to the finish. He scored 10 straight points over the next four possessions to put the game away, part of his 16 second-half points.

Becker shot 52 percent from the floor and held a 43-38 edge on the glass. Antonio White Jr. (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Hawks' cause.

Mitchell will next play at Newbury College on Tuesday, January 24 at 7 p.m. Becker returns to action at home against Wheelock College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
