Men's Basketball Uses Strong Second Half To Sink Mariners

LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Mitchell College 87-78 in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Leicester Gymnasium. The win lifts the Hawks record to 12-9 (9-3 NECC) while the Mariners sink to 7-12 (5-7 NECC).

The first 28 minutes of action was a back and forth affair as the two teams exchanged the lead ten times. After Parris Hill (Stockton, Calif.) tied the game a 56-56, Becker went on an 11-0 run, which was capped off by a Reginald Finney layup (Ansonia, Conn.).

Mitchell was able to cut the Hawks lead down to as little as five, but back-to-back three pointers by Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass.) and Reginald Finney secured the Mariners fate.

Four of the Hawks starters finished in double figures.  Kyle Credle (Queens, N.Y.) went 11 of 13 from the charity stripe to finish with a team high 20 points. Reginald Finney added 17 points while Kareem Davis chipped in with16.  Samuel Dorodola (Rosedale, N.Y.) rounded out the Becker starters in double figures with 14 points. Nafis Streeter came off the bench to go five for five from the field to finish with 13 points.

Mitchell senior Donavan McClean (Jersey City, N.J.) tallied a game high 30 points. McClean also pulled down a game best ten boards to earn a double-double.  Domenico Santiago (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) contributed 15 points while Brayvon Young (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) added 12 points off the bench.

Becker returns to action on Thursday, February 11th with a road trip to Southern Vermont beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mitchell will host Lesley University on Saturday, February 13th at 1:00 p.m.
