Judges Shoot Past Men's Basketball

WALTHAM, Mass.- With sharp perimeter shooting and tight defense, the Brandeis University men's basketball team defeated the Becker College Hawks, 79-58, at Red Auerbach Arena.  

The Judges never trailed, shooting 50.1% (26-51) from the field and making a season-best nine three-pointers.  Junior guard Robinson Vilmont (Cambridge, Mass.)led the Judges with 19 points, including four from downtown. In his first start of the year, sophomore guard Nate Meehan (Lowell, Mass.) scored a season-high 13, all in the first half, canning three of his four triples.

Junior center John Powell (Ashland, Mass.) added four blocks, a career-high, along with 14 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Classmate Tim Reale (Mason, Ohio) had a game-high six assists, also a career best.

The Judges dominated from the opening tip. Vilmont found Meehan for a right-wing three on the opening possession, and after a basket and defensive stop, Reale found Meehan for another trifecta, giving Judges an 8-2 lead. Brandeis closed the first half on a 16-5 run spanning the final seven minutes, to take a 39-24 lead into the locker room.

The Judges played excellent defense all night, holding the Hawks to 32.4% (22-68) shooting. Junior guard Jack Fay (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was especially active with a career-high four steals.

The Judges continued to build the lead in the second half, leading by as many as 23. Brandeis finished the game with 19 assists, while Becker had just seven.

Hawks' sophomore forward Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y.) was the game's high scorer with 21 points, and he also had a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass.) had 12 points and junior guard Kyle Credle added 10 for the visitors.
