Men's Basketball Powers Past Wheelock

LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College defeated Wheelock College 98-77 in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action Monday afternoon. The win lifts the Hawks record to 12-10 (7-6 NECC), while Wildcats sink to 5-17 (2-11).

In the first half, the Wildcats shot 55 percent from the field and 64 percent from beyond the arc. With 6:23 remaining in the first half, Derek Fournier nailed a three-pointer to give the Wildcats their largest lead of the game at 31-19. Becker was able to keep things close the remainder of the half as the Wheelock held a 46-38 advantage at the break.

The Hawks began their rally with 15:58 remaining in regulation when a Rashaun Liggon free-thrown began an 11-0 run for Becker, which gave the home team a 58-52 lead. With 7:36 left on the clock, Nicholas Fenton put the Wildcats within striking distance with a three pointer, cutting the Hawks lead to 73-67.

Becker responded with an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach. Four of the Hawks five starters finished the game in double figures. Scott Dulaire (Bloomfield, Conn.) paced the Hawks with a game-high 26 points and 11 boards to earn his third straight double-double.  David Maturah (Windsor Locks, Conn.) added 18 points and eight boards. Kyle Credle (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed 17 points, while Donovin Ford-Hayes chipped in with 16 points.  Jessy Michaud (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) came off the bench to dish out a team-high eight assists.

The Wildcats matched the Hawks with four of their five starters finishing in double figures. Anthony Williams (White Plains, N.Y.) led Wheelock with 22 points and a team best nine rebounds. Nicholas Fenton (East Hartford, Conn.) tallied 14 points and a game-high nine assists. Matt Eason (East Hartford, Conn.) went four of five from beyond the arc to finish with 12 points, while Derek Fournier (Johnson, R.I.) chipped in with 11 points.

The two teams with complete a home and home series tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m.
