MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- Becker College defeated Sarah Lawrence College 104-71 in the consolation game of the Herb Kenny Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Becker raced out to a 32-12 margin against Sarah Lawrence in 11 minutes of play and never looked back en route to its 33-point win. The lead grew as large as 51-17 in the first half before a 14-6 run by the Gryphons trimmed the difference to 57-31 at intermission. The lead at halftime was the smallest of the second half as the gap grew as great as 42 (89-47) in the second period.
Becker had five players reach double-digit scoring as junior Reginald Finney had 19, junior Scott Dulaire and sophomore Kyle Credle both had 13 and junior Jessy Michaud added 10. Joining Malin with 16 points for the Gryphons was freshman Christian Moraros, Sophomores Graham Gilleran and Stevan Radosljevic both chipped in with 10. Despite the scoring differential, the Gryphons outrebounded the Hawks, 38-36, but 29 Sarah Lawrence turnovers, mainly created by 17 Becker steals, negated any edge. Becker committed only 13 turnovers.
On the all-tournament team from Becker was senior Donovin Ford-Hayes, who took game honors with 26 points. Representing Sarah Lawrence was freshman Malin Segal, who had 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.
