LEICESTER, Mass. – Daniel Webster defeated Becker College 67-57 in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Eagles record to 15-8 (8-6 NECC), while the Hawks sink to 13-11 (9-6 NECC).
The Eagles were led by senior forward Daris Cosby (Columbia, S.C) who scored a game high 21 points. Ray Farmer (Nashua, N.H.) earned a double-double after scoring 13 points and pulling down a 12 boards. Kevin Perez (Nashua, N.H.) also finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and a game high 13 rebounds.
Rashaun Liggon (Elizabeth, N.J.) and Kyle Credle (Queens, N.Y.) led Becker with 11 points each. Donovin Ford-Hayes (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Scott Dulaire (Bloomfield, Conn.) finished with ten points. Dulaire also tied Perez with a game high 13 rebounds.
In the first half, Tyler Roberson put the Hawks in front 8-6 when he drained a three pointer with 17:05 on the clock. The Eagles responded by going on a 16-2 run, capped off by a Daris Cosby three pointer. Daniel Webster kept the Hawks at bay the rest of the half to take a 33-22 lead into the locker room.
The Eagles continued to control the game early in the second half. Daris Cosby nailed a three pointer with 12:06 remaining to give the Eagles a 47-38 advantage. Becker cut the deficit down to one when they went on a 9-1 run to make the score 48-47 with 8:30 left in regulation. That would be as close as Becker would get as the Eagles used a Ryan Gauthier (Nashua, N.H.) layup and six straight free throws to build 56-47 lead.
Daniel Webster returns to action on Tuesday, February 18 when they travel to Lesley University for a tilt with the Lynx at 8:00 p.m. Becker gets back on the court on Friday, February 21 when they travel to Daniel Webster for their regular season finale at 6:00 p.m.
