Stewart, Collins lead Becker’s Worcester Area Football All-Stars

Senior defensive lineman Alexander Stewart (Gifford, Fla. / Sebastian River) and senior defensive back Davin Collins (Far Rockaway, N.Y. / New Utrecht) were both selected as First Team All-Stars by the Worcester Area Football Association in an announcement released on Wednesday.

 

Collins recently earned ALL-Eastern Collegiate Football Conference First Team honors for the second consecutive year. Davin was a second team selection as a sophomore and an honorable mention choice as a freshman. Collins finished his career at Becker with 14 interceptions and 21 pass breakups, which are both program records. Davin is also third all-time in tackles with 238. It was Collins' third year making the Worcester All-Star list.

 

Stewart also earned ALL-Eastern Collegiate Football Conference First Team honors this season after registering career highs in tackles (64), tackles for a loss (21) and sacks (9).  Stewart is Becker's all-time leader in tackles for a loss (47) and sacks (22). It was Stewart's second straight year making the first team.

 

Also representing Becker on this year's All-Star list as second-team selections were senior wide receiver DeJahn Dawkins (East Hartford, Conn. / Cheney Tech), freshman offensive lineman Austin Ryan (Apopka, Fla. / Apopka), senior linebacker LaDarrius Carter (Capitol Heights, Md. / Paloma Valley) and junior defensive back Shane Padeni (Leicester, Mass. / Leicester). Dawkins, qualifying for the second straight year, concluded his career as Becker's all-time leader in receiving yards with 1970 and a school record 21 touchdowns. Dawkins was the team's leading receiver this season with 30 catches for 365 yards and four touchdowns. Carter led the Becker defense with 91 tackles including nine for a loss.

 

The Worcester Area Football Association All-Star Team is named in the memory of Steve "Merc" Morris, the longtime Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations and Assumption Hall of Famer. "Merc" was a 1972 graduate of Assumption and was a member of the athletics staff for 39 years before passing away in January of 2011. In addition to being the founder of the Worcester Area Association All-Star program, he was a tireless supporter of collegiate athletics in the Worcester area and had a key role in the lives of thousands of student-athletes.
