THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – SUNY Maritime defeated Becker College 13-6 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference action Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Privateers record to 3-4 (2-2 ECFC), while the Hawks remain winless at 0-7 (0-4 ECFC).
The Privateers got on the board with 7:05 remaining in the opening quarter when Diogo Dietrich hit a 27 yard field goal. The field goal proved to be the only points of the first half as both teams played stellar defense.
SUNY Maritime increased their lead to 10-0 when Zack Chilcott connected with Greg Caneparo for a 27 yard touchdown pass, capping off an eight play, 73 yard drive for the Privateers.
The Hawks responded on their next possession when Matthew Romasco (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scampered into the end zone from four yards out. The extra point attempt was blocked as Becker found themselves in a 10-6 hole after three quarters.
The Privateers defense forced two turnovers in the fourth quarter. One of them set up a Diogo Dietrich 35 yard field goal to give SUNY Maritime the 13-6 victory.
John Creesy (Merrimac, Mass.) led the Hawks rushing attack with a game high 99 yards on 23 attempts. Matthew Romasco earned 91 yards on 17 carries. Nick Saletnik (Bellingham, Mass.) hauled in two receptions for a game high 54 yards receiving.
Davin Collins (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) paced the Becker defense with a game high ten tackles. Anthony Kaplan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added seven tackles including a sack, while Andre Holder (Queens, N.Y.) hauled in an interception.
Becker returns to action on Saturday, November 1 when they travel to Mount Ida College at 1:00 p.m.
