Equestrian Places First At The UMass-Dartmouth Show

The Becker College Equestrian Team won the championship ribbon for High Point College after earning 37 points at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth show.

Freshman Maia Gromadowski began the day with a fifth and sixth place finish in open fences and open flat.

Senior Catherine Merrill won the first blue ribbon of the day in intermediate fences, while freshman Julia Driscoll placed sixth. Merrill went on to win her open flat class and take home the Reserve High Point Rider of the Day.

Junior Kristi Esposito rode a solid course in her first intercollegiate jumping class, novice fences, alongside Sophomore Meghan Burkhardt who placed second. Burkhardt also earned the red ribbon in open flat.

Junior Kirby Kojabashian made her first appearance in intermediate flat, earning a second place finish. Senior Terise Cole and freshman Morgan Houghton each placed fifth.

The second blue ribbon for Becker went to Sophmore Bella Brogle who rode in novice flat. Juniors Sara Pauwels and Hailee Klapproth also competed. Both riders rode well, with Klapproth placing third.

The Advanced Walk Trot Canter class saw two of Becker's riders, Casey Petrone and Tanashia Casado, place fourth and sixth, respectively.

Emily Farrell rode to the third blue ribbon finish of the day in beginner walk-trot canter.

Sophomore Tyler Downer finished up the day in the Walk Trot division with a third place.

In addition to the normal classes of the day, an alumni class was held where assistant coach Kelsey Hanrahan earned a blue ribbon, while coach Nicole Layne won the fun coaches costume class, dressed as the Mad Hatter. Layne rode to a fifth place ribbon in the coaches flat class.

The team will be showing again on November 1 at Roger Williams University.
