LEICESTER, Mass. - Hawks junior Phillip Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished a two-game series against Western New England University with one goal and four assists and has been named the Becker Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on Nov. 24.
Garcia began his week with a pair of assists in a 4-1 win over the Golden Bears, helping the Hawks to their first victory in the Commonwealth Coast Conference this season.
In the second game of the home-and-home series, Garcia opened the scoring with a power-play goal through a screen in what ultimately ended up in a 5-4 overtime loss for Becker.
Garcia is up to eight points on the season, tied for second-most on the Hawks. He leads the team with six assists through eight games played.
In the CCC standings, the Hawks currently sit in sixth place after taking four points from the weekend with a regulation win and an overtime loss.
Up next for Garcia and the Hawks is the annual Steve Hoar Memorial Hockey Tournament on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The Hawks welcome Franklin Pierce, Wilkes (Pa.), and Suffolk to Worcester Ice Center for this season's edition of the tournament.
Opening round games will begin on Nov. 30 with Becker vs. Franklin Pierce at 2:00 p.m., followed by Suffolk vs. Wilkes at 5:30 p.m. The losers of those games will play the Consolation Game on Dec. 1 at 2:00 p.m. while the winners compete for the Championship at 5:30 p.m.
