Salem State edges Women's Volleyball, 3-2

SALEM, Mass. --- The Becker College women's volleyball team lost in five sets at Salem State University on Tuesday night, 16-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied at two sets apiece going into the fifth set, the Vikings took an 8-4 lead and appeared to be well on their way. But the Hawks rallied to take four of the next five points, pulling to within one off a kill from junior middle-blocker Gillian Criddle (Earleville, Md. / Bohemia Manor) to make the score 9-8. But Salem State would close out the set and the match after taking five of their next six rallies.

 

BY THE NUMBERS

• Senior middle-blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J. / Bronx High School Science) led the Hawks with ten kills, three aces and 1.5 blocks.
• Becker junior outside hitter Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional) came through on the defensive end, totaling 20 digs.
• Becker junior setter Olivia McGuinness (Colchester, Conn. / Bacon Academy) setup the Hawks offense with 27 set assists, ten digs and two aces.

Becker is back on the court on Thursday when they play host Fitchburg State University at 7:00 p.m.
