Women’s Ice Hockey Shutout by UNE, 4-0

BIDDEFORD, MAINE – The Becker College women's ice hockey team opened up Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) play on Friday, as the Hawks were shutout against the Nor'Easters of University of New England (UNE), 4-0.

 

THE BASICS

FIRST PERIOD

Four and a half minutes into the game, UNE scored their first goal as Kenady Nevicosi (Breckenridge, Colo.) placed one in the net with help from Tatum Gietl (Littleton, Colo.).  The Nor'Easters scored again on their second power-play opportunity of the game as Julianne Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) found Jessie Scott (Barre, Vt.) for the 2-0 gain. UNE found the back of the net once more in the first period, when just under a minute and a half to go, Bella Crugnale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored on helpers from Shannon Upton (Bourne, Mass.) and Katie Babineau (Pepperell, Mass.). The Nor'Easters outshot the Hawks, 14-5 in the stanza.

 

SECOND PERIOD

The second period was scoreless. UNE outshot the Hawks 13-5 in the frame.

 

THIRD PERIOD

The Nor'Easters put their final tally on the board 1:45 into the third period. Kyra Yu (Ogden, Utah) slipped one past Becker's goaltender, Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo.), on a power play for the 4-0 score. Becker once again put up five shots on goal, and held the Nor'Easters to just seven in the final period.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • UNE's four goals came from four different players. Gietl recorded two assists in the win.
  • Becker's Cameron Payne (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo.) each had three shots on net in the setback.
  • In total, UNE outshot Becker 34-15.
  • The Nor'Easters went 2-for-5 on power play opportunities, while Becker did not convert on three chances.
  • The Nor'Easters Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) earned her second win in net, as she stopped all 15 shots on net.
  • Becker's Rigsby was tagged with the loss in a 30-save performance.

The teams will meet again tomorrow evening, as Becker hosts UNE in a 5:45 p.m. game at the Worcester Ice Center.
