Softball: Hawks open season at Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Becker College softball team dropped two games on their opening day at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, on Sunday. The Hawks fell 9-1 in their opener to the Muskies of Lakeland University before falling just short in a 5-2 loss to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam.

FOR THE HAWKS
• Senior left fielder Vasia Murphy (Dracut, Mass. / Dracut) went two-for-five on the day, with a solo home run against Potsdam.
• Freshman catcher Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass. / Blackstone Valley Technical) had a solo dinger herself in just her second game as a Hawk. It was the first hit of Iacovelli's collegiate career.
• Freshman pitcher Ashley Veillette (Danielson, Conn. / Killingly) had two hits on the day and struck out three Muskies in five innings in the circle.
• Junior third baseman Lauren Niemann (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) went two-for-three on the day with an RBI base hit.
• Senior pitcher Samantha Belenchia (Ansonia, Conn. / Ansonia) allowed just five hits in six innings against the Bears.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the field on Monday when they play Coast Guard at 11:15 a.m. and Smith College at 1:45 p.m.
