Senior pitcher Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland) and senior centerfielder Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst) headlined a group of five players from the Becker College softball team to be voted to the 2018 New England Collegiate Conference All-Conference Team.
Lee and Carkhuff, both team captains, were named All-NECC First Team while freshman shortstop Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass. / Bristol County Agricultural) and junior first baseman Samantha Belenchia (Ansonia, Conn. / Ansonia) were voted All-NECC Second Team. Sophomore second baseman Lauren Niemann (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) made the Third Team.
Lee, the staff ace for the last two years, had an incredible regular season where she pitched the Hawks to the number two seed in the NECC Championship Tournament. Her six shutouts led the entire conference. She was also a major contributor at the plate, hitting .341 with 21 RBI and team-bests of seven home runs and a conference-leading 24 walks drawn. Lee ends her career as Becker's third all-time leader in wins, complete games, innings pitched and games pitched. It is Lee's third time making the All-Conference team.
Carkhuff hit .389 with five home runs and team-highs of 28 RBI and 11 stolen bases on the season. Her consistent presence was a boon to the Hawks, as she and Ellis were the only two players It is Carkhuff's third time making the All-Conference team.
Ellis hit a team-leading .427 at the plate, with two home runs and 22 RBI. Her 20 doubles led the Hawks, and ranked second in the NECC and eighth nationally. She also turned a team-leading five double-plays. The freshman was named NECC Rookie of the Week twice in the course of the season.
Belenchia hit .305 with three home runs and 19 RBI. The junior also won six games in the circle with 41 strikeouts and a 4.93 ERA.
Niemann hit .269 with seven RBI.
Sophomore Shannon Lundy (Barnstable, Mass. / Barnstable) was named to the NECC Sportsmanship Team.
