LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College softball team lost two games to visiting Newbury College on Monday afternoon at Russell Field in Leicester. The Nighthawks of Newbury (9-11, 6-0 NECC) rallied past the Hawks of Becker (6-10, 2-2 NECC) in game one, 4-3, before cruising to a 12-3 victory in game two.
Becker senior first baseman Ashley Ciepiela (Adams, Mass. / Hoosac Valley) went three-for-six on the day with two doubles and an RBI. Junior outfielder Jennifer Boxell (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough) posted three hits with two RBI, while sophomore shortstop Megan Klemanchuck (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) had a two-run home run in game one. Junior pitcher Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland) started both games and stuck out three Nighthawks in ten innings.
Newbury pitcher Alina Milauskas (Elkridge, Md. / Long Reach) was a force both with her arm and her bat, allowing just two earned runs and striking out four Hawks in game two and reaching base six times and scoring on all six opportunities. Senior left fielder Naomi Ricciotti (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Vista) finished with four hits and five RBI, while sophomore Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass. / Fontbonne Academy) posted four hits including a home run. Freshman pitcher Mallory Stefan (Thornton, Colo. / Mountain Range) picked up the win in game one with five strikeouts.
The Hawks of Becker are back on the field on Wednesday when they host Dean College in a non-conference double-header beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Nighthawks of Newbury are back on the field on Tuesday when they travel to Lesley University in an NECC double-header between the league's top two teams beginning at 6:30 p.m.
