Men's Tennis can't get by Rhode Island College
Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College men's tennis squad posted a 7-2 victory against Becker in a non-conference contest played at the RIC Courts on Saturday afternoon.
 
RIC (4-6) recorded wins in all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 advantage. The Anchormen then took four of the six singles contests to earn the five-point victory.
 
RIC freshman William Tavares (Kingston, R.I.) and junior Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.) posted a hard-fought, 9-7, win over Becker (3-4) senior Aaron Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Connor Allison (Hillsboro, Ore.) at No. 1 doubles. 
 
Sophomores Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, R.I.) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, R.I.) recorded an 8-1 win over sophomore Throngpol Chinpanjapol (Barre, MA) and junior Thomas Lanphear (Manchester, Maine) at the second doubles spot. The Anchormen were awarded a forfeit at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.  
 
Tiberi notched his second win of the day with a (7-5, 6-4) victory over Allison at No. 3 singles. Gambardella posted a commanding (6-0, 6-1) win against Lanphear at fourth singles for his second win on the afternoon. Esposito also recorded his second win of the afternoon with a (6-0, 6-2) win against Alex Kielczewski (Grand Prarie, Texas) at fifth singles to help lead the Anchormen to the 7-2 victory.
 
Peterson had a (7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) win over Tavares at No. 1 singles for Becker. Throngpol Chinpanjapol notched a (6-1, 7-5) victory against Scott at second singles for the Hawks.   
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Western Connecticut for a Little East Conference contest on Tuesday, April 18 (3:30 p.m.).
