DORCHESTER, Mass. - The Wheelock College men's tennis team fell to visiting Becker College in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club, 7-2. The Wildcats move to 0-5 and 0-2 in the NECC while the Hawks improve to 2-0 and 2-0 in conference action.
Wheelock got off to a strong start at the first doubles spot led by senior Matt Brown (Angola, Ind.) and sophomore Arvin Hedayaty (Tarzana, Calif.). The duo cruised to an 8-3 victory but the home team dropped the other two doubles matches to head into singles play trailing 2-1.
The Wildcats struggled in singles action as the visiting Hawks swept the six contests to close out an 8-1 victory. Junior Amos Jackson (El Paso, Texas) took his opponent at third singles to a tiebreaker in the second set but fell 10-8. Meanwhile, Brown pushed his foe to a 7-5 first set but also wound up losing in straight sets.
Wheelock returns to action tomorrow as they host NECC rival Lesley at 5:00 p.m.
