Mariners sink Men's Soccer on Senior Day

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's soccer team lost 1-0 to visiting Mitchell College on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field on the Becker campus in Leicester.

THE BASICS

THE LEAD
• After a scoreless first half, Mitchell junior midfielder Christian Urena (Griswold, Conn. / Griswold) broke the tie in the 57th minute when he weaved through the defenders and scored his second goal of the year as the Mariners went ahead 1-0. That would hold up for the final score.

BY THE NUMBERS
• Total shots were 24-11 in favor of Mitchell, who enjoyed a 13-8 edge in shots-on-goal.
• Pressed into action just ten minutes into the first half, Becker freshman goalkeeper Tyler Marzocchi (North Providence, R.I. / North Providence) came in in relief and recorded two saves in 35 scoreless minutes.
• Becker senior Devin Ramos (Warwick, R.I. / Pilgrim), playing in the final home game of his career, played the second half in goal for the Hawks, recording nine saves in 45 minutes.
• Mitchell junior goalkeeper Seth Strader (Preston, Conn. / Norwich Free Academy) went the distance for the Mariners, recording seven saves in his third shutout of the season.
• Mitchell freshman midfielder Carl Wilson (Danbury, Conn. / Danbury) had a game-high five shots on the day.
• Becker had three shots each from junior defender Jonathan Gonzalez (Douglas, Mass. / Douglas) and freshman midfielder Siedon Nemeth (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands / Niwot).

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the start of the game, the Becker College Athletics Department and the men's soccer program took a few moments to recognize the senior class of this year's team. Each of these six young men have made incredible contributions not only on the field but for the entire Becker community as a whole. Although their playing careers may be coming to an end, they will forever be part of the Hawks family.

UP NEXT
The Hawks will wrap up their season on Saturday when they head to New England College for a 2:30 p.m. game. The Mariners travel to Lesley University on Saturday for their regular season finale, that coming at 8:00 p.m.
