Men's Lacrosse edges Lyndon State for first victory

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's lacrosse team won 9-8 over visiting Lyndon State College on Monday evening at Alumni Field in Leicester.

The Hawks of Becker (1-1) had two goals and three assists from senior attacker Avyay Chaganty (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan). Freshman attacker Matthew Guerin (E. Longmeadow, Mass. / E. Longmeadow), the reigning NECC Rookie of the Week, scored a pair of goals while sophomore midfielder Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt. / Peoples Academy) also scored twice. Senior midfielder Blake Gordon (East Greenbush, N.Y. / LaSalle Institute) had a goal with two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Trey McMillen (Grapevine, Tex. / Grapevine) finished with 13 saves.

The Hornets of Lyndon State (1-3) were led by junior midfielder Shea Jones (Hull, Mass.) with a hat trick of three goals plus an assist. Senior attacker Zachary Carey (Exeter, N.H.) posted two goals while freshman midfielder Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, Mass.), senior attacker Konner Bick (North Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior attacker Spencer Aubin (Sharon, Mass.) each tallied a goal apiece. Senior goalie Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, N.H.) finished with 18 saves.

With 2:30 remaining in the game and the score tied at 8-8, Lyndon State was called for a slashing penalty. With a man advantage, Gordon found senior defender Nicholas Mariano (Cranston, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) who put it in for the eventual game winner. It was the first career win for Becker head coach James Putney.

Becker is back on the field on Wednesday when they are scheduled to travel to Mass Maritime for a 7:00 p.m.
