Northfield, Vt. – Five players registered multiple-goal games April 11, as Norwich University earned its sixth consecutive win by a 20-7 count over Becker.
Playing on a sun-splashed Howard Field, the host Cadets bolted out to a 12-1 halftime lead. Sophomore midfielder Ian Mendoza found the Hawks' net with three shots which included the game's first goal less than two minutes in at the 13:42 mark. Freshman attacker Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.) scored 42 seconds later to make it 2-0, but Becker (3-9, 3-3 GNAC) got a goal back with 6:30 to go in the opening quarter. Mendoza answered with his second goal late in the period which started an 11-goal run for Coach Neal Anderson's squad.
Mendoza ended the afternoon with four goals, while Fuller added two goals and four assists for a six-point game. The trio of junior midfielder Arron Canarelli (New Hartford, N.Y.), senior midfielder Patrick Sikora (Montpelier, Vt.) and sophomore attacker Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) each produced three goals, and Thomas contributed three assists. Sophomore attacker Marco Wiederaenders (Denver, Colo.) added a goal and three assists.
Norwich out-shot Becker 40-19 including a 15-3 roll in the second period. Thomas' six tries led the way, while Mendoza and Canarelli ended with five each. Wiederaenders and sophomore defender Timothy Siebert each picked up three ground balls.
Becker was topped by the stalwart effort of sophomore attacker John DeAngelis. He scored four goals and attempted seven shots.
NU returns to its friendly confines with a key late-season league clash against St. Joseph's College of Maine Saturday, April 14. The Cadets and Monks share second in the GNAC with twin 5-1 records, trailing league unbeaten Lasell by one game. Faceoff is 1 p.m.
