Men’s Ice Hockey Suffers Loss to No. 10/12 Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass.  –  The Becker College men's ice hockey team was defeated by the No. 10/12 Endicott Gulls 9-1 in Friday evening Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

 

THE BASICS

FIRST PERIOD

Endicott came out with a 3-0 lead in the first period.  Jason Kalinowski (Stamford, Conn.) began the scoring midway through the period.  The Gulls added another four minutes later from Jack Kilty (Medway, Mass.), and Jake Simmons (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored the third just under a minute and a half to go.

 

SECOND PERIOD

Endicott put another three on the board in the second period.  The goals were from Joseph Slovak (South Yarmouth, Mass.), John Carricato (Ridge, N.Y.) and Simons, who scored his second of the night,  Becker was able to sneak in a goal with just 11 seconds on the clock.  Jake Cagnina (South Berwick, Maine) scored the Hawk tally on a power-play with help from Charles Costello (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Brian Greene (Barnstead, N.H.).  Endicott led 6-1 heading into the final frame.

 

THIRD PERIOD

Three more Gull goals in the third period led to a 9-1 final score.  Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.), Ricky Carballo (Keller, Texas) and Simons accounted for the goals.  Simons completed the hat-trick 16:30 into the third when he scored on a power-play opportunity.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Endicott outshot Becker, 57-21.
  • Simons led all scoring with three goals for the hat-trick.
  • Endicott's other seven goals were scattered amongst seven players.
  • Both Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.) and Jacob Gammelgaard (Esbjerg, Denmark) logged a game-high three assists.
  • Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Pa.) received the win in net, stopping 13-of-14 shots on net.
  • Becker's Grant Martens (Bloomington, Minn.) took the loss in 35:56 minutes played.  He stopped 33-of-38 shots faced.  Reliever Cody Foster (Saugus, Calif.) made 15 saves in 24:04 minutes played.
  • Each team went 1-for-4 on power-plays.
  • The Gulls are 7-0-0 all-time against Becker.

The Hawks and Gulls will matchup again tomorrow night in Worcester at 7 p.m.
