Bison skate past Men's Ice Hockey at DCU College Night

WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's ice hockey team lost 3-0 to visiting Nichols College on Thursday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at the DCU Center in Worcester. The game was part of College Night at the Center, where college students from all over Worcester were welcome to attend the Railers game later that evening.

THE BASICS

FIRST PERIOD
• The Bison outshot the Hawks in the first, 17-6.

SECOND PERIOD
• Nichols got on the board 7:18 into the second period when sophomore forward Nate Foster (West Chazy, N.Y. / Vermont Lumberjacks) scored his first goal of the season, with assists to junior forward Nicholas Mangone (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / P.A.L. Junior Islanders) and senior forward Daniele Iasenza (Pierrefonds, Quebec / Bridgton Academy). The Bison went ahead 1-0.
• Then with 1:54 to go in the period, Nichols senior forward Matthew Menta (Lima, Pa. / Soo Eagles (NAHL)) scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Vincent Crivello (Rosemere, Quebec / Hawkesbury Hawks (CCHL)). With the insurance goal, the Bison went ahead 2-0.
• Nichols outshot Becker, 16-10, in the second period.

THIRD PERIOD
• The first power play goal of the game came 7:50 into the third period when Nichols freshman forward Petr Miko (Zlin, Czech Republic / Odessa Jackalopes (NAHL)) scored the third goal of his career to put the Bison ahead 3-0, assisted by Menta and Crivello.
• The Bison outshot the Hawks in the third, 25-10.

BY THE NUMBERS
• Becker junior goalkeeper Grant Martens (Bloomington, Minn. / Helena Bighorns) finished with 55 saves between the pipes for the Hawks, a season-high.
• Nichols sophomore goalkeeper Henry Burns (Camillus, N.Y. / Springfield Jr. Pics) totaled 26 saves in the shutout victory.
• Total shots were in favor of the Bison, 58-26.
• Becker went 0-2 on the power play while Nichols was 1-6.
• Becker freshman forward Jason Diamond (Lakeville, Conn. / Connecticut Nighthawks (USPHL)) the Hawks in shots with four.

UP NEXT
The Hawks and Bison are back on the ice on Friday when they play again at Levy Rink, hosted by Nichols College. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:40 p.m.
