Men’s Ice Hockey Drops Second Straight to Colonels

Charles Costello and the men's hockey team defeated Nichols College 2-0 on Thursday evening.

MILTON, Mass. – The Becker men's ice hockey team dropped their second straight game to Curry College, as the Colonels won the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game 7-2, Saturday evening.

FIRST PERIOD

Curry scored first in the second minute as Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) scored on a pass from Tristan Morin (Unionville, Conn.).  The Colonels took a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later when Zachary White (Milford, Conn.) sent one into the back of the net on assists from Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) and Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba).  

 

SECOND PERIOD

Becker reached the board in the fourth minute of the second frame on an unassisted goal from Charles Costello (Philadelphia, Pa.).  Curry took back the two-goal lead three minutes later when Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) registered a tally on helpers from Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba). Two more goals slid past Becker's goaltender, Ryan Clifford (Coventry, R.I.), to give Curry a 5-1 advantage heading into the final period.

 

 

THIRD PERIOD

In addition to Lionel Mauron's (Lausanne, Switzerland) power-play goal in the second period, Snow and Matthew Henderson (Scarborough, Maine) each had a power play goal in the third.  Becker's Zachary Bettmeng (Sioux Falls, S.D.) put the final number on the score, as the score settled at 7-2 in favor of the Colonels.

 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Colonels outshot the Hawks, 56-18.
  • Becker's Clifford stopped 49-of-56 shots on net.
  • Curry's Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) turned away 16 shots on net.
  • Curry capitalized on three-of-six power play opportunities. Becker converted zero of three chances.
  • Becker incurred 40 minutes on eight infractions, while Curry served 20 penalty minutes on six infractions.

 

UP NEXT

The Becker men's ice hockey team heads to Wentworth on Friday (Nov. 9) and returns home on Saturday (Nov. 10) for back-to-back CCC action.
