Durodola powers Men’s Basketball over Gordon in OT

WENHAM, Mass. — The Becker College men's basketball team prevailed 79-75 in overtime at Gordon College on Saturday.

The Hawks of Becker were led by senior forward Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y. / Campus Magnet) with 23 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Junior guard Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass. / St. John's) finished with 16 points, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc. Junior forward Dewayne Thomas (Springfield, Mass. / Lowell) pulled down 13 boards and scored 12 points, while Junior guard Jalen Robinson (Queens, N.Y. / Manhasset) finished with 12 points. Freshman guard Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn. / Universal Audenried) came off the bench to score ten points with six rebounds.

The Fighting Scots (2-4) started off the game with a 22-13 run for a nine-point lead. They stretched their lead out to ten points before the Hawks (5-4) went on a 15-2 run in the last six minutes of the first half to make it a 32-29 Becker lead at halftime.

Eric Demers scored six points and recorded two steals in the first half. Garrisson Duvivier grabbed ten rebounds and scored four points. Josh Ribeiro scored four points and pulled in four rebounds.

In the second half, the teams traded the lead back and forth in the first five and a half minutes before the Hawks scored eight straights points to take a 52-43 lead. They stretched the lead out to ten points before Gordon cut the lead to one point with an 18-9 and only 2:37 left in the game. Jake Haar tied the game with a three-pointer with 1:58 remaining. Jalen Robinson scored 20 seconds later to put Becker up 68-66 before Haar tied the game again with two free throws. Robinson made a three-pointer with 52 seconds to put the Hawks up 71-68. Demers tied the game at 71-71 with a three-pointer and only 37 seconds left. Kareem Davis missed a three-pointer with one second left to send the game to overtime.

Becker scored four points in the first minute of overtime to go up 75-73. Duvivier then made a layup to tie the game at 75-75. The game remained tied until Robinson scored with 27 seconds left to put them up 77-75. Demers missed a three-pointer and then Haar fouled Davis with 11 seconds left to send him to the line. Davis sank both free-throws to seal the win for the Hawks.

Duvivier finished with a career-best 19 rebounds. He also scored 17 points and dished out three assists. Demers scored 14 points with four steals and two assists. Haar scored 13 points and pulled in a career-best seven rebounds.
