The Becker College men's and women's basketball teams were both picked to finish first in their league in the preseason poll as voted on by the coaches of the New England Collegiate Conference.
On the men's side, the Hawks were picked to repeat as NECC Champions, led by the 2016-17 NECC Coach of the Year, Brian Gorman, is back on the sidelines, and the 2016-17 Player of the Year, senior Samuel Durodola (Sr., F, Rosedale, N.Y.), is also returning for the Hawks. Durodola is coming off a junior campaign in which he led the conference in field goal percentage, with 60.1, rebounds with 180, while also landing second in the conference with 22 points per game in NECC play. Junior Kareem Davis (Jr., G, Lowell, Mass.) will also look to make an impact for the Hawks, after a season where he earned Second Team All-Conference honors, and was also named the NECC Tournament MVP.
For the women, the Hawks will look to build on their breakout 2016-17 season under the NECC Coach of the Year, David Bostick, who led the Hawks to a 13-5 record in NECC regular season play, while also making it to the NECC Semifinals. Bostick will return for Becker, as will 11 of 14 players from last year's squad, including the 2017 Rookie of the Year, Cassidy Harrison (So., G, Foxborough, Mass.). In her rookie campaign, Harrison averaged 15.5 points per game, while shooting 36.4 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from behind the arc. 2017 Third Team All-Conference selection, Adrianna Dowdy (Jr., F, East Haven, Conn.) will also look to make an impact for the Hawks.
Both teams open their season on Wednesday night when they play host to Anna Maria College. The women play at 5:30 p.m. while the men tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
