Field Hockey Falls to Anna Maria, 2-1

PAXTON, Mass. –  Anna Maria College's Lauren LaPierre (Worcester, Mass.) scored both goals for the AMCATS in a 2-1 non-conference win over the Becker College Hawks in Tuesday evening action at AMCAT Field.

FIRST HALF

Nikki Streete (San Jose, Calif.) of the AMCATS and Baileigh Griese (Woodstock, N.Y. / Onteora) of Becker held their respective opponents scoreless throughout the first half as they made four and two saves, respectively, in the frame.

 

SECOND HALF

Just 2:30 minutes into the second half, LaPierre earned the first goal of the game on assists from Allyson Shaw (Holden, Mass.) and Chayana Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.). The lead lasted more than 20 minutes for the AMCATS, until Becker's Abigail Leahy (Charlton, Mass. / Shepard Hill Regional) scored off a putback from Amy Cooper (Monument, Colo. / Lewis Palmer) in the 62nd minute. The AMCATS responded quickly, as LaPierre scored the game-winner four minutes later on a helper, again, from Shaw.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • LaPierre and Shaw logged two goals and assists, respectively, on the night.
  • Despite the loss for Becker, the Hawks outshot the AMCATS 21-7 (12-3 in the second half).
  • The Hawks also seized 11 penalty corner opportunities, in comparison to Anna Maria who only saw one corner.
  • Anna Maria's Streete earned the win in net, as she stopped nine shots on goal. Becker's Griese suffered the loss in a three-save performance.

Becker returns home on Friday (Sept. 21) when they host WPI in a 6 p.m. contest.
